She was a skilled artist, flag maker and embroiderer before moving to Lindfield in 1920, where she continued these crafts and became involved in many aspects of village life, including being librarian and member of Women's Institute, Bonfire Society, Horticultural Society and amateur dramatics.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer (4 February 1906 – 9 April 1945) was a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, anti-Nazi dissident, and key founding member of the Confessing Church. His writings on Christianity's role in the secular world have become widely influential, and his book The Cost of Discipleship became a modern classic.

Apart from his theological writings, Bonhoeffer was known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship, including vocal opposition to Hitler's euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of the Jews. He was arrested in April 1943 by the Gestapo and imprisoned at Tegel prison for one and a half years. Later he was transferred to a Nazi concentration camp. After being allegedly associated with the plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler, he was briefly tried, along with other accused plotters, including former members of the Abwehr (the German Military Intelligence Office), and then executed by hanging on 9 April 1945 as the Nazi regime collapsed, just two weeks before Allied forces liberated the camp and three weeks before Hitler's suicide.

Cavan Wood has been a Head of RE since 1993. He has written textbooks for Heinemann on Judaism and Buddhism as well as for the Think RE series. He is a regular contributor to Secondary Assembly File and a reader in the Church of England.

Free artistic Wine Tasting!

Saturday 19th September from 12pm-5pm

Pop in and try some delicious wines from award winning wine merchant South Downs Cellars.

This is something that you won't want to miss.  The chance to taste some artistic wines.  Well, to discover what artistic wines means will be a good thing and then to swirl, sip and savour.

See you there.

South Downs Cellars opened its doors for the first time in August 2003.  Our motivation was borne out of a desire to be able to buy quality wines at all price points that were not mass-produced, or available on the majority of the multiple off-licence retailers that dominated the scene at that time.  Run only by quality, knowledgeable staff, we have built our business over the years, and now have two shops and a thriving wholesale business.  Despite the significant growth in the business, we have stuck to our original principles of only selling high quality wines from the smaller, family-owned vineyards around the world, and are now shipping direct from over 15 different small, privately owned vineyards around Europe.
