Fitsteps

fitsteps

Sponsored by Marian CameronFitsteps is the result of a collaboration between ‘Strictly Come Dancing’s’ professional dancers Natalie Lowe and Ian Waite and Britain’s most successful swimmer Mark Foster. It is a mix of the graceful steps of Ballroom and the up tempo steps of the Latin dances to create a really fun, energetic and effective way to stay fit. It is the first time that classic Latin and Ballroom dances have been brought together with proven fitness techniques and principles to create not only a programme that can have extraordinarily wide appeal but one that also has the potential to make a real and lasting impact on the health of the nation.

The Lindfield Preservation Society is delighted to be able to assist with and sponsor this exhibition of the stunning work of local photographer Dave Hill.

John Jesson, Lindfield Preservation Society.
September 2015.

Dave says, “The Lindfield Preservation Society have kindly offered me the chance to exhibit my pictures. I am doing this on behalf of the charity GAIN [Guillan Barre &
Associated Inflammatory Neuropathies].

Most of the work shown was from 35 mm slides, a seemingly distant age as the digital era marches on, creating different challenges. In those days I used to write
for the West Sussex Gazette accumulating a great blend of history and nature knowledge.

As I write these few words, memories come flooding back of former campaigns, like helping to create the Eastern Road Pocket Park with a number of similar minded local people who wanted it saved from housing development.

I could write another paragraph on my approach for taking pictures, but the advice would be to keep it simple, look for different angles and just be content to capture a fraction of subjective photographs with the multitude on offer.

Over the years, I have always said that paradise is here on our doorstep, but that 'step' is getting narrower as the creeping urbanisation of our towns and villages take place. What a great shame that would be if we were to leave a concrete jungle to our children and grandchildren?”

Lindfield Preservation Society

The Lindfield Preservation Society is a registered charity and welcomes everyone who cares about Lindfield. Membership brings the opportunity to add weight to calls to all planning authorities to respect our Village, its way of life  and its fabric; aims that are very relevant now as the threat of inappropriate development looms once more.

Membership takes as much or as little effort as you can spare, or no effort at all! Armchair members are as welcome as volunteers with a little time to offer. Individual membership costs £5 per year or £10 for a household. Go to  www.lindfieldsociety.org for an application form.

The Society runs a series of talks throughout the year, normally at the King Edward Hall. Membership cards include the subjects and times. The talks are open to
members and the general public alike.

The Society plays a respected hands-on role in the local planning process. We make written representations to the Local Planning Authority and address Parish and District Planning Committees and campaign for decisions that respect our Village, its Community and its Infrastructure. The Society considers all Local Planning Authority planning initiatives, in particular those handed down by Government
to Regional Authorities, and where appropriate collaborates with the Parish Council to make representations.

Generally the weekly consideration of Planning matters is handled by volunteers and involves either zero or at most minimal expenditure. However a strong membership base gives authority to the opinions and arguments the Society
puts forward. Occasionally, for example when faced with a Planning Inquiry, the Society’s Management Committee decides to use some of its fighting fund and instructs a Consultant and/or a Planning Barrister to make representations on our behalf.

To paraphrase JFK, “ask not what your Village can do for you, but what you can do for your Village!”

Sadly the Vinyl Capris have had to cancel their performance at the Festival.

We wish them all well.

Vinyl Capris 2

After the success of Lindfield band night at Lindfield Primary School last Friday, the Vinyl Capris have agreed to perform for the Lindfield Arts Festival on Saturday 19th September at 8.00pm at the Bent Arms,  Lindfield.

That'll be good.

More about the VCs in their own words.

"As catchy as conjunctivitis and as cool as custard.  The Vinyl Capris prove that there's no substitute for a tune whilst illustrating why "pop" music is indeed popular!"

Free artistic Wine Tasting!

Saturday 19th September from 12pm-5pm

Pop in and try some delicious wines from award winning wine merchant South Downs Cellars.

This is something that you won't want to miss.  The chance to taste some artistic wines.  Well, to discover what artistic wines means will be a good thing and then to swirl, sip and savour.

See you there.

South Downs Cellars opened its doors for the first time in August 2003.  Our motivation was borne out of a desire to be able to buy quality wines at all price points that were not mass-produced, or available on the majority of the multiple off-licence retailers that dominated the scene at that time.  Run only by quality, knowledgeable staff, we have built our business over the years, and now have two shops and a thriving wholesale business.  Despite the significant growth in the business, we have stuck to our original principles of only selling high quality wines from the smaller, family-owned vineyards around the world, and are now shipping direct from over 15 different small, privately owned vineyards around Europe.

inChoir is a singing group which members join just for the sheer joy of singing. We are entirely non-auditioned but the passion, power and perfectly pure harmonies are absolutely amazing. We have twelve adult branches in total, including two in Haywards Heath and one each in Burgess Hill and Uckfield, and we sing a variety of uplifting modern songs. Come and watch us and you'll hear us perform songs from the last couple of years charts alongside a song celebrating its fiftieth birthday - plus anything in between.  But we should point out that a performance by inChoir comes with a warning; we'll make you laugh, and we might make you cry; we'll make you clap your hands and stamp your feet; we may even make you want to join in!

Tickets are free, however, tickets are allocated due to limitations on seating capacity. Please register your place below.
